"Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me."Psalm 51:10 (NIV)
- Firmly fixed in place;
- Not subject to change;
- Firm in belief, determination, or adherence.
Creating a steadfast relationship with God prior to this year was the only thing that got me through 2016. I’ve always known that he wants me to be the best person, so I can complete the task he has set out for me. But once those hard times started hitting like numb chucks to bare skin, I would start stressing. As the trials got harder to deal with, the more I prayed and cried to God. June was by far the hardest month, but it also was when I started having random anxiety attacks. In July, I realized that the trigger was all in my head and would only resolve once I started talking to God. I never asked “Why me?”, but more “Please help me get through this because I know this is only going to make me stronger.” As time went on, my stress level decreased tremendously and my anxiety attacks stopped.
Having a relationship with God is more than believing that he has your best interest at heart. It’s about stressing less and praying more because you know that God is real and His promise for you is very much attainable. Thank him during good and bad times to remind yourself of the plan He has already set out. Those trials and tribulations are apart of that plan, so you can reach your Destiny.
To create an everlasting relationship with God, one must build a steadfast foundation. Commit to this relationship by:
Talking to God
Talk out loud to Him like you would to a best friend. Have an open dialogue and call on him. Pray to him about your concerns, your appreciation, and all things in between. Seek guidance through these conversations. Over time, it will become more natural and you will grasp the answers quicker and with better understanding.
Reading the Bible
The Bible is the most valuable book you can ever obtain because it is God talking to you. Set aside time to sit down and indulge in it. Take notes, make correlations, and apply what you have learned to your own life. One of my favorite books to read is Genesis. It really lays out the foundation of the Bible and highlights all of the creations God established.
Be Familiar With the Ten Commandments
Understanding the Ten Commandments is still viable information to know in today’s world. All of them are easy to abide by. If you feel like you have done one of them, ask for forgiveness and do better. They basically tell you to be respectful, appreciative, and honest to everyone and to God.
Just like a house, a strong, steady foundation determines how the entire structure will stand.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
