" Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. "James 1:2-3 (NIV)
Like a house, the roof protects you. It shields you from the attacks of nature’s external elements, while keeping everything that’s internal, in place. Secure your relationship with God by having the kind of spirit that can work for Him. Prove to God that you will not defer from the tasks He has set out for you. Strive to have a heart like David.
God didn't randomly select David to accomplish all he did. He had been preparing him every step of the way. When God used Samuel to anoint David, Samuel was sure that David’s oldest brother was the chosen king based on external features. God chose David because he knew the purity of his heart.
The Lion and the Bear
When a lion and a bear attacked his sheep, David went to protect them. When they tried to harm David, he killed them. You may have some doubt if you are capable of taking on a large task, but you must continue trusting God. Nothing is too large when you have Him in your corner.
When David asked to kill Goliath, Saul doubted his ability. He assured Saul of his credibility by preaching,
“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”
Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
(1 Samuel 17:37)
When he slayed Goliath, he did so with his usual gear and appearance. God had already equipped him with everything he needed.
Pass the Test, Get the Blessings
God tests you, so he can trust you. Life is a grand test with many assessment tests along the way. To be tested, is to be blessed, which means you are favored. David had so much more than courage; he had faith. He knew that God had given him the strength before and would do so again. God gave him another test because he knew he would pass. The relationship was built on trust. So, regardless of your current feelings, do what Jesus would do, and continue on with your job.
Like David, turn every opportunity into a testimony and continue to roll with the punches. Who can defeat someone who is blessed and highly favored?
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
